Love yourself with a platinum diamond ring

Forget waiting around for a man to buy a platinum diamond ring - the latest trend is reportedly for women to treat themselves to luxury jewellery.


Independent woman are purchasing stylish statement rings and wearing them on their right hands, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.


According to the publication, the fashion made its way on the silver screen recently, when Sex and the City's big screen incarnation featured Samantha being outbid by a mystery telephone caller for a diamond flower ring.


Upon finding out that the mystery bidder was her boyfriend, Samantha was dismayed - she wanted to buy the ring for herself.


Margaret DeYoung, deputy executive director for the American Gem Society, told the newspaper: "A diamond ring symbolises how much someone cares and how much someone loves you. Well, why not love yourself?"


Sex and the City was released in the UK in May and was promoted with the tagline: Get Carried Away.
