Published : 31/07/08 The first ever Dubai Diamond and Jewellery Summit is being organised for November, it has been announced. Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) is organising the event, which aims to provide the industry surrounding the sale of products such as diamond drop earrings and diamond bracelets a forum through which to initiate relationships. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the centre, commented that the summit is to focus on the growing potential for business between China and the Middle East. Meanwhile, Peter Meeus, the executive director of diamonds with the DMCC, noted that "leading retail jewellery companies have witnessed phenomenal growth in the past decade". Indeed, in news that may interest people involved in the diamond necklace trade, polished diamond imports to Dubai increased by 69 per cent in the first quarter of the year, Mr Meeus said. The DMCC was founded as a strategic initiative of the Dubai government to establish a commodity market in the emirate.
