A collection of jewellery has been created that is going on sale in Liverpool in recognition of the work of Gustav Klimt, according to reports.

The first piece of the collection - a diamond pendant - is valued at £700 and can be won as part of promotion of Klimt's work by the Liverpool Echo.

Inspired by the work of artist, the pendant features a diamond set into an 18-carat, white gold setting. Its serpentine shape draws on the images of serpents most common in Klimt's designs.

The collection has been designed by the jewellers David M Robinson in recognition of the company's 40th anniversary, according to the Liverpool Echo.

In related news, to celebrate Liverpool's year as the Capital of Culture, an exhibition by the renowned artist is being held at Tate Liverpool.

It focuses on the life and work of the painter and explores his role as the founder and leader of the Viennese Secession movement.
