Singer Mariah Carey has discovered that the platinum diamond engagement ring bought for her by husband Nick Cannon is similar if not the same, as one he presented to a previous girlfriend.
The £1.5 million pink diamond ring is "strikingly similar" to one Mr Cannon gave to his then-fiancee Selita Ebanks when he was engaged to the Victoria's Secret model last year, the Telegraph claims.
An example of one of the largest styles of diamond rings, the 17carat iceberg is surrounded by 58 pink diamonds and two half-moon diamonds.
The newspaper also noted that French premiere Nicolas Sarkozy also committed the 'ultimate' engagement sin when he gave Carla Bruni a Dior Cupidon ring, the same style he gave to his former wife towards the end of their relationship.
It suggested that men did not understand the meaning of an engagement ring for some women.
Divorce lawyer Vanessa Lloyd-Platt told the publication that one possible way out of this sticky situation for Mr Cannon would be to offer to have the stones reset.
It is Ms Carey's second marriage; she divorced Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola in 1997.
